Financial resources to pull down architectural barriers that denies access to handicapped people are arriving
Thanks to the law 13 of 1989, now handicapped people have the possibility to pull down architectural features in their home after having asked it to Emilia Romagna Region.
In total there are 3.138 requests, 2.353 come from persons with total disability, three quarters of all requests come from old people.
Municipalities involved are 264. Requests arrive more from Bologna (661) Modena (555), Reggio Emilia (406) and Parma (332), then from Ravenna (308), Ferrara (238), Rimini (228), Forlì-Cesena (226), and Piacenza (183).
64% of persons have requested a help to pull down only external features in front of their home, for example to put instead a specific ladder for disables or an elevator. Whereas, a quarter of the total of requests regards the demolished internal features and the fitting of the spaces (for example expansion of the bathroom and bedroom or of the shower or of the bath).
The others 10,6% have requested the demolition of both external and internal features.
