

The 2007 Report of Foreign Citizens, realized by the Immigration Institute of Carpi, underlines the fact that in 2006 in Carpi, Campogalliano, Novi di Modena and Soliera there has been many more foreigncitizens.
At the end of 2006, 9.118 immigrants have been registered in this area, 25% more than in June 2005, and three times more than in 2001 when foreigners were only 3.357.
Foreign citizens represent 9,3% of the population, twice as the national population percentage.
In Novi foreigners are actually 12% of the residents, whereas in Soliera there are only 6,1%.
Women and children- In these 4 towns children represent 13,2% of the scholastic population (with the case of Novi where they are 20%). Women are 4.094 in total -so 45% of all the immigrants- whereas 23% of foreigners are less than 14 years old, and only 0,8% are more than 65 years old.
Schools have become multicultural: there are 203 foreign children in nursery school, 459 in primary school, 261 in secondary school and 280 in high school.
Communities- The biggest communities are Pakistanis (1.609), Tunisians (819) and Moroccans (708). Then, Chineses (404), Indians (282) and Rumens, Turks, Albanians, Ukrainians, and Moldavians (around 178 and 218)
Reasons- This increase is due to the regularization of foreign workers and to the joined family which as a result has increased the presences of women and children.
Families choose this area for regular job offers and good social and public services.
The case of Emilia Romagna- Also in Emilia Romagna there has been an increase of foreign citizens of more than 29.000 persons. Reading the temporary Report realized by the Institute of Strategic and Statistic Control Service of Emilia Romagna, the foreigner represent 7,5% of residents in Emilia Romagna (318.079 on 4.223.591).
