Whereas in 2004 more than 17.000 persons asked for help to the regional Centers of Caritas, in 2005 they are actually more than 21.000.
These numbers illustrates the final presentation of the first dossier on “Poverty and social politics” realized by Caritas of Emilia Romagna in Bologna.
The persons who go more frequently to the regional Centers of Caritas are unmarried mothers, young homeless and illegal immigrants. Most of all, they are foreigners from East countries (55%) and from North Africa (33%) and often they are illegal clandestine immigrants (in Bologna 50% of them are without residence permit).
This rising of poverty is often due to the private income which is insufficient for the joined family of immigrants.
Family policies- During this presentation also regional familiy policies have been estimated. “Beneficiary people” , “benefits”, “strategies” and “actions” of the regional policies have been used as indicators to measure the level of regional actions in the aim of improving family wellness. Emilia Romagna has joined 48,5 points out on 100, whereas for example Sardegna has 44,1 points and Lombardia is the highest with 49,5.
Father Gianpiero Franceschini, of the regional delegation of Caritas, underlines the importance of creating a social net between communities and also of emphasizing the sense of civic responsibility.
