All the initiatives of Assemblea Legislativa of Emilia Romagna for the Peace Week

The Assemblea Legislativa takes part to the Perugia-Assisi walk demonstration and to the Peace Week with numerous initiatives to promote “all human rights for everyone”.
Press freedom and right of information are the main theme of all the meetings organized in the region from the 1st to the 7th of October.

Journalist becoming from Benin, Morocco, Senegal, Israel, Cameroon, Iraq, Afghanistan, Guinea, Russia and Palestine will be the guests of Emilia Romagna’s Region and, after, they will go to the
seventh  People Assembly of ONU  in Perugia.
Their presence gives to the region the opportunity to consider one of the most controversial right of the last years: press freedom. Especially in these days, during the Burma’s repression, we can observe all the power that a free press can have for the promotion of human rights.
Press "speaks" and tells the world all the atrocities, violence and violations of human rights. In 2008 there will be the
60° anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and for this reason we can’t forget the important and difficult role of the press for the diffusion of peace.

For the Peace Week the Assemblea would like to recall to school, to citizens and to all the region the importance of a free information. These are all the initiatives.
On Monday 1st of   October in “Piazza della Libertà di stampa” in Conselice (Ravenna) there will be the first Anniversary of the monument of the press which is placed in the square, the first in Italy dedicated to press freedom.
On Tuesday 2nd of October, in the morning, guests journalists from all the world will go to Foundation School of Peace in Monte Sole, one of the village of Marzabotto which was destroyed during the war. In this village the Foundation organizes initiatives and activities of education of peace and respect of human rights.
On Tuesday, in the afternoon at 3.00 pm, in Bologna, in Piazza San Giovanni in Monte there will be the meeting “Information, peace and press freedom” during whic guests journalists will speak about their difficult experiences. Moreover some Italian journalists of “Ordine dei Giornalisti” will present the course “Journalists in peace and war” supported from Provincia of Bologna.
Journalism represents a medium to promote peace so it could become also a weapon for everybody who wants to repress it. Only brave hands can use this medium. Brave hands were those of
Anna Politkovskaya who has denounced Chechnya’s atrocities and has been killed in 2006 in front of her house, those of Raffaele Ciriello Italian reporter killed in Cisgiordania in 2002 and those of Aleksander Litvienko, ex Russian agent who has probably been killed because he knew too much. Some films and memories about them will be showed during the meeting, whereas other brave journalists will speak about their fight against the repression of human rights in Africa and Middle East.
On Wednesday 3rd of October and the day after, guests journalists will go in the school of Bologna and of all the region to explain their example to the youth.
From 5th to 7th of October they will leave to Perugia to take part at the
seventh  People Assembly of ONU which will end on the 7th with the Perugia-Assisi walk demonstration in which all the world citizens’ will walk together for a future in which all human rights will be guaranteed for everybody.
