In Europe in the last 10 years hate crimes have augmented. According to the Report “2007 Hate crime survey” realised by the Ong “Human rights first”, in the last year violence against Jews, homosexuals and Muslims has enhanced in all the 56 countries of Osce (Organization for security and cooperation in Europe).
However most elaborated analysis concern only 5 countries – France, United Kingdom, Russian and Ukraine- in which supervising has been more efficient.
France- In general the total number of hate crimes has decreased of 10%, but unfortunately anti-Semite crimes have augmented of 6,6%: the highest number from the’90s.
United Kingdom- After the subway attacks in London crimes against Muslims have augmented of 600%.
Germany- Hate crimes have augmented of 20%, the highest number from 2001. An example has been the guideline which has been spread to minority groups for the Football Worldwide 2006. It was called “Nogo” and it suggested all the dangerous areas in which it was better ..not to go.
Russian- In this country “deadly” violence has been committed against minority such as Rumanian, Christian people, Chechnya people and Caucasians.
Ukraine- Hate crimes are moreover directed towards Africans and other minority groups.
“Different people”- Europe is inclined to shut itself and to oppose “different” people who today is not only Jews, but also new immigrants such as Muslims. Moreover, violence against these minority groups has augmented because they have became more visible, they demonstrate and they protest for their condition, for example the homosexuals in the Gay-Pride.
Prejudices- Violence starts because of prejudices. Persons who commit anti-Semite crimes do that “because of Israeli politics”. People against Muslims perpetrates crimes against them “because they are terrorist”. So everyone different for colour, race, origin and faith becomes a target.
At the end, the Report emphasizes the necessity of enforcing legal punishment for these crimes and of implementing an efficient supervising of them.
Then, I think that it will be fit to teach the next generation that unless love at least respect for the difference is important to live together in a multicultural society.
