

In 2006 in Italy claims for asylum have increased whereas in Europe have decreased. Last year there have been 10.348 refugees who have claimed for asylum in Italy, so 8,9% more than in 2005, whereas in Europe there have been 53,2% less than in 2005.
Most of all, refugees are coming from Africa: such as Eritrea (20,8%), Nigeria, Togo, Ghana, Costa D’Avorio, Etiopia, Sudan.
Time procedure for the requests has decreased: 90%of them have been granted in one year.
However only 9,5% of the refugees have received asylum, whereas human protection (and residence permit) has been guaranteed to 46,8%, and 39,8% of requests have been rejected.
Commissions- The big part of requests has been analysed by the Commission of Foggia (29,5%), Crotone (19,8%) and Milano (18%) (which is also the slowest to examine them). Roma, Siracusa,Trapani and Gorizia have been noticed less requests.
Gorizia is the most generous commission which has given more than 30% of asylum, whereas Trapani has guaranteed more human protection (69,2%). Milano and Roma have rejected most of requests (51,3% and 44,2%).
Protection- In Italy there is a national net to protect and help refugees thanks to projects organized by 95 municipalities and provinces. In 2006 102 projects have given protection to 5.347 persons. Lazio is the region which have helped more refugees (1.412 persons have been granted in Roma), then Lombardia, Sicilia, Puglia and Emilia Romagna. The last one is Molise with only 15 persons.
More than 46% of granted refugees are on human protection (and in 2004 persons with human protection were only 11,7%); and 14% are politics refugees. Instead, granted refugees who have obtained right of asylum are now 42,9% of total, whereas in 2004 they were 80%.
Emilia Romagna-In the Emilia Romagna’s region there are 2.000 refugees. On the 20th of June, the Mondial day of Refugee, there will be exhibitions, concerts, conferences, and many other events in all the region to celebrate this special day.
